Nintendo Switch Online service launching September 2018

Nintendo Switch online

Is the official name for the new Nintendo online service. As the name indicates all the feature will be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch.

Release window

It will be released in September of 2018, a specific day has yet to be announced.

Pricing

Nintendo Switch Online will cost $3.99 per on month, or $7.99 for 3 month and $19.99 per 12 month. The family membership will cost $34.99 per 12 month, but you will be able to invite up to seven others to join the group (all members of the group will have access to the service).

Features of Nintendo Switch Online

Online Play

Online play for compatible games, which is free at the moment!
If you want to continue to play online with your friends, then you will need to subscribe to Nintendo's online service, after it's release in September. If you do not subscribe you will not be able to play online anymore, just like on Xbox or Playstation.

Classic Games

The service will launch with 20 games, with new games added regularly. There is no official word on what regularly means. Hopefully we will get new additions every month, but I highly doubt that with the subscription service being so cheap compared to the other major players.

Launch titles include:

  • Soccer
  • Tennis
  • Donkey Kong
  • Mario Bros.
  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Balloon Fight
  • Ice Climber
  • Dr. Mario
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Super Mario Bros. 3
More will be revealed! I will update this post as soon as they are officially revealed.

Cloud Saves

We will be able to save our data (Save Games etc.) online for easy access.

Nintendo Switch Online app

Lets you invite friends to play and use voice chat. The "friend invite feature" will work for friends on your friend list or friends on other social networks.

Special offers

The official word on that feature is: "Stay tuned for news on special deals and offers for members."
We are probably looking at special offers that may include discounts on select eShop games and content.
